Sustainable Product References: The Effort to Invent an Eco-Friendly Home Design

Living in a home with an eco-friendly design can give benefits for the environment and for our health. Basically, the concept of eco-friendly is about all things that are earth-friendly and do not harm the environment which is needed these days with all of the contamination, pollution, and damage happening on earth. In this case, having an eco-friendly home means you use the products and items that can contribute to green living. You can start this home design concept by providing sustainable products that could really properly support eco-friendly living.

Sustainable Home Decor

The biggest concern for sustainable home decor is to make sure that there is no negative impact on the environment that comes from things you apply to the house. It could be from the furniture, ornament, accessories, or any interior parts. You should choose the right products that have minimal impact on the environment for both the material and the process of the product making. It can be difficult to find a store with natural-friendly products but that is not impossible. To help you master the basic concept of sustainable products, here we give you three main requirements so that you won’t make the wrong choice.

1. The Material

The product should be made with renewable materials so that it won’t have a negative impact on nature in a massive way and continuously. Examples of sustainable materials that you can use are bamboo, wood, jute, hemp wool, linen, beeswax, and coconut.

2. Production Process

The production process should consider the environment and workers. It means that worker safety should also be considered with all of the waste and contamination. It should be balanced between the environment and the production effect on the workers.

3. Distribution

The energy that is used for this process should be minimized so that there won’t be any waste and the balance of the environment can be managed well.

By following those three main requirements, a product that is made in the industry can be said as a sustainable product. It will surely support the environmentally-friendly principle for eco-friendly living. You should look for the right producer that can produce the products by following those requirements, but now, we’ll try to show you sustainable products that are made of sustainable material for your reference.

1. Furniture

The most possible material for the sustainable furniture is the bamboo. It is because bamboo is easy to grow and can grow fast. Of course, you can still use wood but it will need a longer time to grow so when you choose the wood material, just make sure to choose a high-quality and durable one so that you can use it for such a long time that we usually call it a lifespan product.

Bamboo material is applied to the dining table and sofa frame. Here, the coffee table is combined with glass material for the table surface then the sofa is combined with the pad for extra comfort. Bamboo Coffee Table and Sofa from @simaspaces

2. Interior

The interior part is the wall, ceiling, or floor that is commonly added with layers to beautify the decoration. Here, we don’t recommend you use concrete or VOCs material because those two are not environmentally friendly and included in the must-avoid material.

You can see how pretty the reclaimed wood can be in this decoration. It is applied to some parts of the interior where the interesting thing about it is that there are colors to beautify the design. Then, there is a white color to neutralize the impression so that it isn’t seen as too much. Reclaimed Wood Interior from @tomasandjani

3. Home Accessories

There will be some materials that can be used for sustainable home accessories. You can use wool, cotton, jute, etc. The home accessories themselves can be thrown pillows, throw blankets, rugs, curtains, etc.

Look at how the wool material can bring comfort and stylish at the same time. It is not only beneficial for an eco-friendly living but also able to beautify the decoration. The installation of the rug is also brilliant. Tom looks real, right?! Wool Rug from @product.only

4. Ornament

The material choices for the ornament will be wider than others because it will be related to the art and there won’t be any limitation for this. You can use wood, bamboo, jute, wool, coconut, just anything!

This one uses two product combinations and both are eco-friendly. The glass vase is a recycled product then the twig is sustainable. Although the twig comes from waste, look at how it can be seen as valuable with the right touches. Twig Galls Ornament from @papercatz_paper_flower_studio

5. Household

The household is the one that should be concerned because it takes the most waste in the house. Some of them can’t be controlled but we can minimize it by using some sustainable product as follows.

There is nothing more adorable than the bamboo toilet paper. The product is soft and won’t easily tear so it won’t leave waste in your skin. Also, since bamboo is renewable grown, then using it is the best choice you can make rather than damaging the forest with the common toilet paper. Bamboo Toilet Paper from @peekapoopaper

There will be other possible products at the store that you can choose from. At least, if you can’t track the production process, you can make sure that the materials are eco-friendly. For your advice, you can shop at the store with tags that claim that the products that they sell are sustainable or eco-friendly.
